English Language Development Department
At Winona Area Public Schools, we’re ready to meet students where they are — and help them grow. Students who have a language other than English in their background may be eligible for English Language Development (ELD) services. Through this program, Multilingual Learners (MLs) receive personalized support to strengthen their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English — so they can confidently engage in academics, connect with peers, and thrive in school.
Our ELD program is designed to:
- Build English language proficiency while honoring each student’s home language and cultural identity.
- Provide classroom and small-group support tailored to individual needs.
- Collaborate with teachers, families, and support staff to create a welcoming, inclusive learning environment.
- Support academic success across all subjects by focusing on the language of learning.
We believe every student brings unique strengths to our classrooms — and we’re here to help them shine.
